Qimen Dunjia is an ancient Chinese divination technique. It is still used by the Chinese in mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore and Southeast Asia.
Qimen Dunjia is based on astronomical observations and covers various aspects of Chinese metaphysics, including yin and yang, the five elements, the eight trigrams, the ten heavenly stems and twelve earthly branches, and the twenty-four solar terms.
The Qimen Dunjia cosmic board consists of a 3×3 Nine Palaces Magic Cube, which includes the Heaven and Earth Plate, the God Plate, the Eight Gates and the Star Plate. Various symbols rotate around the palaces at each hour of the day, forming a total of 1,080 different Qimen Dunjia cosmic board configurations. These situations (ju; jú) cycle four times a year and are divided into the yin and yang halves of the year.
Each Qimen Dunjia divination has its unique God of Use (yongshen; yòngshén). For example, medical divination relies mainly on the star plate. The Qimen Dunjia analyst's task is to interpret and analyze the meaning of the symbols in relation to the question asked. Any Qimen Dunjia situation can be interpreted or analyzed to answer a wide variety of questions, or solve a large number of problems. Examples of problems include understanding the other party's underlying purpose in a situation, finding a lost item, and analyzing cause and effect.
